Fall for most people means gourds, pumpkin spice latte’s and sweater weather if you live North of the Mason-Dixon Line. For me, it means driving a hand full of action packed cars very quickly, as automotive media associations gather manufacturers and journalists to recap what special products have come to market each year. This BMW M2 Competition is absolutely no exception from that rule. Natural autumn lighting allow the Sunset Orange Metallic to really glow, accenting the redefined lines for this 2er variant, which is reasonably more aggressive styling than the outgoing M2, and 230 or M240 stablemates.
The 405hp turbocharged inline six cylinder is borrowed from the M3 and M4, providing a considerable increase in power with minimal increase in curb weight. BMW’s commitment to building enthusiast market cars continues with the M2 Competition providing a 6 speed manual as standard equipment, but offering a lightning quick 7 speed DCT optionally for those who don’t wish to row their own gears.
A quick fifteen minute spin of the M2 Competition proved to offer a snarly power plant stuffed into a sensible, well balanced package. With an entry price of $58,900 and an as tested of $64,545 I’d be interested in seeing what this track ready coupe is like to live with as a daily driver!
